Text Messages

I hate sending “textes” (I’m sure that’s not a Webster-approved word, but neither are OMG, ROFL, and LOL). It takes me 8 minutes to send an 8-letter text. By the time I finish toggling between letters, T9Word, symbols and numbers, I forget what I wanted to say in the first place. Plus, I haven’t a tiny clue on the accepted text messaging decorum. Educate me if you will. How long do I wait to send a reply? And once the conversation starts, who has the last word? If I don’t reply, I seem rude. And if I do, it could go all day. Pretty soon, I find myself texting while driving, texting while working, texting while eating, texting while, well, wasting. I can’t tell you how many mid-conversation texts I have on my phone.
As much as I hate sending text messages, I can’t seem to escape it. It very much has become a social exigency in this iEverything world.
For me it depends on the purpose of the text and the recipient.
If it’s close friends, I don’t care too much for spelling or if they think I’m rude.
If it’s something a bit more format, I’d make sure the important info is in it and accurate and to the point.
*format = formal
That’s pretty simple. Now, what if you got a text from someone you’re trying to ignore, can you still use the good ‘ole “Oh, I never got your call” excuse? Do text messages always go through, even without reception?
Not sure about text going through without reception, but I’m in Australia, and if my text doesn’t go through it tells me and asked me if i want to retry resend or not – so chances are if they sent it, the excuse won’t do, LOL.
I’d reply with the generic replies, like “Hey.. there.. long time no see.. how’s thing?”
I’m sure a few text replies won’t hurt.
I’m not sure about texts being sent to you , but no, texts you try to send will not go through without service. I’ve tried and it comes back to me with a big red X letting me know it did not go through.
